Blog of the Year 2012 ☆3 Nomination! Not Quite Nigella

March 2, 2013 by Joanne T Ferguson

book coming out soon via Penguin Books Australia

As a follower of food flavor fascination , I read recently read Samantha’s nomination for Blog of the Year 2012 ☆3 from Fae of Fae’s Twist & Tango.

I added my congratulations via comments and as a relatively new food blogger, I was “intrigued” to know more.

It was then I read that I “too” could select a blog I think deserves the ‘Blog of the Year 2012/2013’ Award, TRUE! I “automatically” wanted to nominated Lorraine Elliot of Not Quite Nigella; my comment I left on food flavor fascination:

“I would like to nominate Lorraine Elliott of Not Quite Nigella (, TRUE!
Loyal reader of her “inspiring” blog, LOVE her food photos, food adventures through Lorraine’s unique eyes, how Lorraine contributes making the world a better place too!”

While we have never met, (KNOW one day we will 😉 ), Lorraine “indirectly” was responsible for me creating What’s On The List? on Christmas Day! 🙂 Thank you! And not without further ado! 😉

I wanted to “personally” share MY Top Ten List of Lorraine’s 2012/2013 blog posts and why they were selected by me! The posts also give you “insightwhy this nomination to Lorraine is special for me! 😉

Not in any order, as “would have” listed her interview with MARCO MARCO MARCO , but “realized” it was done in 2011!

Perhaps Lorraine it is time for an updated interview! 😉

Durban & The Bunny Chow Escapades, South Africa — December 15th, 2012
I thoroughly enjoyed Lorraine’s trip with Chef Neil Perry! I did not know what “bunny chow” was and while I was not there (only experienced South Africa through Lorraine’s photos and unique eyes 🙂 ), I could not stop chanting “bunny chow, bunny chow, bunny chow!” too! 🙂

Celebration Stained Glass Cake! —January 14th, 2013
Lorraine made this for her father’s birthday as one of his hobbies is stained glass! VERY special indeed!

Brooklyn Bagel Boys — February 15th, 2013
I “S-Q-E-A-L-E-D” with delight when I read Lorraine’s post too; an American born and bred (NY), now an Aussie who calls Australia home too! I could not WAIT to “literally” hop in the car and drive from Darlinghurst from Adelaide to experience NY BAGELS too! 🙂 (14 hours 21 minutes by car lol )

Nine Layer Nachos Slider! — October 23rd, 2012
“OH MY GOODNESS” I YELLED while I viewed this post over my morning coffee! Sliders are “such” the “in thing” at the moment (in my opinion 😉 and multiply the nachos layers by NINE! 😉

Meet My Suburb: Burwood — October 2nd, 2012
WHAT a “GREAT” food tour, I would suggest people (WHEN they visit! 😉 ) to experience too! Looked like great fun and always love learning something new! It reminds us ALL to reconnect in being food “tourists in our own towns too!

Made from Scratch: Sesame Lavosh Crackers & Some Promised Video
While I “genuinely” did enjoy the Lavosh Crackers (which I serve for entertaining on a regular basis), I enjoyed Lorraine’s Promised Videos too! 😉

The Three Week Spice Cake —October 2nd 2012

My mum who has passed away would be “chuffed” (VERY proud) KNOWING her “fourth generation handed down recipe” was share by Lorraine too! Of “interest” is Lorraine did not initially know my mum was a Scrabble addict (in a good way!), so with a tear in my eye (when I saw the Scrabble tiles), and sharing (what would have been my mum’s) Happy 80th Birthday Mum’s Special Spice Cake  on my blog, Lorraine’s post will always be special to mum and me! TRUE! 🙂

Beef Rendang – My Mother’s Recipe — June 23rd 2011 (is not from 2012/2103, but SO deserving to be on my Top Ten List! 😉 )
Lorraine shares her WONDERFUL mother’s recipe and other recipes from her mother: 🙂
Singapore Chili Prawns, Chicken Hor Fun Noodles, Three Cup Chinese Chicken, Yee Sang Chinese New Year Salad, Chee Chong Fun Rice Noodle Rolls and Hong Kong Style BBQ Pork Buns (one of my faves too! 🙂 )

Adelaide Central Markets, South Australia —October 1st 2010
(OK, so doesn’t this doesn’t fit into 2012/2013 either, but as a “VERY PROUD” South Aussie, I LOVE promoting my GREAT state and is always good to see what others share about their fun, entertaining, experience of our local Adelaide Central Markets! I would “HIGHLY RECOMMEND” to one and all visiting Adelaide to experience the “BUZZ” of the markets, local produce and the VERY friendly stall owners who are more than happy to help with their food knowledge and suggestions too! 🙂  HIGHLY RECOMMEND the Adelaide Central Markets 😉

NQN’S Seriously Spooky Halloween Party!
I look “VERY” much forward to Lorraine celebrating Halloween EVERY year, TRUE! As Lorraine “truly comes up with “very unique” creations; wish I lived closer to be invited too! 😉 HOW about that Hogwart’s Castle made out of Gingerbread and Happy Halloween with Melting With Cupcakes! ??? 😉 😉 🙂 🙂
So, if there is there is ever a blog that is deserving of Blog of the Year 2012 ☆3! Not Quite Nigella via  the Thought Pallette is “THE ONE” for me too!

I am currently a member of the Blog of the Year Award.

Per Step 6 of the “rules” of this award:
“As a winner of the award – please add a link back to the blog that presented you with the award – and then proudly display the award on your blog and sidebar … and start collecting stars…”

So Lorraine of Not Quite Nigella, I HOPE you will “accept” this nomination (first star) for Blog of the Year 2012 ☆3! Not Quite Nigella from me! 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 (5 star smiles asking friends of Not Quite Nigella to nominate you too and do a blog about why they are “proud and honored” (like me!) to know you and be inspired by you too! 🙂
